When patients and surgeons use subjective criteria and ignore clinical objectivy and clinical measurements of the body they are actually going to operate on, then the chance for creating permanent tissue damage to the patients' breasts is much greater. You see, breast implants should simply fill the empty space in the breast - NOT push breast tissue to places it has never been - if the desired result is one of a natural appearing breast that is least likely to cause the patient a need for reoperation and revisions in the future. When the patient's body is ignored during the operative planning of her breast augmentation and only her desires and expectations are given attention, disaster darkens the end result.

It is very important to help patients balance what they want, with what they can realistically have given the body they give us to work with. Helping patients understand that there are limits is the surgeon's responsiblity. It is just like when your children come and ask you for something as a parent, that you know may not be in their best interest or might hurt them. As a parent, you help them understand and make better decisions and sometimes, you just have to say NO. Surgeons should do that with you too as their patient. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't have a say in what you would like to see after your breast augmentation, but it does mean you should listen very carefully to your surgeon and understand what is safely possible along the path to your desired result. Everything in life has pros and cons and everything is up to a little negotiation - - breast augmentation is no different.

Let's shift the focus off what cup size you want to be - the ultimate cup size you have been dreaming of - and focus on your body. Let's plan the operation on your YOU - not a nebulous Victoria's Secret cup size. When we make decisions based on something that is real - on you and your body, then we are more likely to end up with a good result that you are happy with in the end. If your breasts look bigger, fuller, firmer and balance your body - - do you really care what cup size you are? You could be a D in a Target special or that infamous VS 34 C - - it doesn't matter! What matters is that your breasts look spectacular on you! And most importantly, you no longer have to rely on the little 19 year old clerk at VS to tell you what you should wear!

There is a correct amount of "fill" for each patient's breast. And there is a scientifically peer reviewed and published measurement system called The High Five System - that produces the perfect amount of fill every time! Dr. Tebbetts published this system for all breast implant surgeons to have access to and use. You can read about how to determine size using clinical measurements here http://www.thebestbreast.com/articles.php and in Chapter 4 of The Best Breast 2.

Take cup size out of your vocabulary as you educate yourself about breast augmentation and give your body a say in what is really the best size and the prettiest option for you!
