I visited a forum the other day only to find this wonderful dialoge going on about patients actually taking charge of their consults and their size decisions - it is really amazing to see how women will use their knowledge and education - patients just need to know the fundamentals and understand the risks and they will always make better decisions with their surgeons. After standing on my soap box and preaching about how cup size is not an accurate way to plan an operation and how important it is to understand and use High Five Measurements for SO long, I just had to share this with you - I am so proud of these ladies!

I'll just throw it out there...I am a control freak. I have a pre-op scheduled the first, and I started to panic about sizing. My PS wasn't even going to be the one that sized me, it was going to be his technicians. Everyone calls him a perfectionist, but so am I. Since most re-do's are for sizing, this was my greatest concern. I was supposed to bring in ribbed tanks and try on sizers and then based on my measurements they would order the best breast implants. But looking down at myself, I started to question whether my body would do of it what I was asking. Stumbling around for more information, I ordered the Best Breast book and read (well, all of it...but) the part about the High Five System. Unfortunately, I found the chart in the book incomplete and had to find the rest online. After taking the measurements, and buying a caliper at Home Depot (I prayed the salesman wouldn't ask why), I filled out the planning sheet. And I have to say...wow. If you could see the size of the rice implant I made the first time, to the one I made after getting my 'right' size, you would be amazed. I have another consult tomorrow morning with a new PS, and a re-consult with my first PS tomorrow afternoon. If they tell me to pick a size I'll be having a third consult. I have a better idea now what will fit in there, and maybe this time, at least for me, smaller will be better. If you're freaking out too, need some tangible guidelines to start from...I'd recommend a look.

I feel like a proud Mamma! I am truly so proud of all of you for really searching out and seeing what your body will allow you to have safely!! So for any of you who would like the How to Measure sheet - please just email me at TTebbetts@plastic-surgery.com
If you have the number that High Five gives you in your back pocket when you go for your consults - then you will be a much better judge of how the ps measures and what they suggest! Bring the decision-making and operative planning back to clinical basics and allowing YOUR body to tell you what it will safely hold is critical to really good, long-term results in breast augmentation!
And remember - measurements mean nothing if they still ask you to try on sizers or take you to the 3D imaging room!
You ladies are GREAT!!
